apart from being a dad, that is.

Six years into fatherhood and I have to say, there hasn’t been a single second that I’ve regretted being a family guy. Little outside my family and loved ones matter to me anymore. Not money, not career, not business ventures, not my hobbies, nothing. Am I upset about it? Heck NO, I could care less about the others as long as we’re safe and healthy.

I know I’m not the best dad nor husband in the world, my faults and flaws are a mile long – and then some. At the end of the day however, Vio and Yokes just make me feel happy, comfortable, safe, and most of all – content. I honestly can’t ask for anything more.

I can’t say I’m trying my best to become a good dad, because honestly, if you have to TRY being a dad, you aren’t exactly being one. Nothing that comes from the heart requires deliberate thought, in my opinion. I’m trying to be the best provider, but that’s different from being a dad.

There’s a sense of peace that I have inside me whenever I stay up at night, watching my wife and son tucked away in bed. I know Yokes deserves more than what I can give to him right now. I wish I can give my son as much life’s experience, luxury, and material goods that I enjoyed when I was his age. But one honest look from him tells me he’s not asking for anything more than he has in front of him. I still don’t know how I can thank him enough for that.

I don’t need to impress anyone with material things, my past, my achievements, nor my future – those things don’t matter in the eyes of the people who truly loves me and to those I really love. That realization allows me to spend a lot of time, effort, and energy on the people I need to give my all to, not to those who’s not worth a second of my time.

It’s incredible what a child can tell you with one hug and smile that say “I just want you around Dad“.

That turns me into mush every single day… The moment I wake up, the moment I wear my shoes to go to work, the moment I enter the house after work, the moment before I tuck Yokes to bed… Every day is a perfect day.

I’m a very happy and content mush.

Happy Dad’s Day to all Dads out there. To the fathers too…

OK, I got off the bus this afternoon after lunch. After taking 20 steps or so from the bus stop (which is in front of a hotel near my office), I felt a strong gust of wind flew past my head, so I instinctively ducked.  I then saw a large, 12-14″ crow flew past me and perched itself on a tree branch nearby, squawking loudly.

I just kept walking towards my office and then I heard a louder squawk, and before I knew it, the damn crow hit me on the head! It friggin attacked me!

I looked up and there it was, perched on another tree branch, looking right at me, tilting its head and squawking loudly. As I back-pedaled a bit and staring at it, it just stared back, repositioning itself for its next swoop.

I walked under the hotel’s open shade area, out of its sight, and its squawks became louder and more frequent, but didn’t follow me anymore. I was forced to take the rear exit of the hotel and took the long way back to my office.

Even after a block, I can still hear its angry squawks… I guess it’s that time of the year when fledglings start to learn how to fly and the parents are overly protective.

It’s like this guy’s problem…

Here’s a more local incident/report – http://www.razor.tv/site/servlet/segment/main/news/41770.html

Geez, no more Thai food lunch for me since I have to pass there to get it.

I want a blowtorch. Oh, I’m being bullied (inside joke of some sort).

DIY Post-Flood Car Cleaning

by David Tong of Big Bert’s Professional Detailers – www.bigberts.com

After the onslaught of Typhoon Ondoy, thousands of car owners are left with flood-damaged vehicles and there’s simply not enough dealerships and independent stores to service all damaged units.

This write-up is meant to be performed immediately after you can gain access to your flooded vehicle. As most will probably realize, flood water isn’t exactly fresh water entering the car. It’s a disgusting mix of water, soil, oil, trash, human/animal waste, plants, among others. Needless to say, NONE of these belong to your vehicle and you should get rid of it as soon as you can, even if you do plan to have your car cleaned professionally. More Photos

After several rescheds (our schedules don’t seem to match in the past), I finally got the chance to shoot Mike and Jane’s engagement session.

Mike’s a friend and my officemate in VeriFone and he’s tying the knot this November. This is the first of two e-sessions that we plan to shoot before the big day and we were pretty lucky to get the right amount of rainfall on our first shoot.

Got a Sony Ericsson W760i from a Singtel plan last October 08, used it until December or so and got the first problem with a hanging phone. Phone was sent to Wisma service center and software update was made (1st repair).

Upon receiving the phone, I noticed that the battery no longer holds a charge longer than 6hrs compared to 2+ days previously before the upgrade.

Sent the phone back to repairs and they claimed to have replaced the motherboard. That was around April. (2nd repair)

Almost immediately (same day) I noticed that the left side buttons (1, 4, 7, *, up, left) doesn’t work. Sent it back to Wisma the next day. (3rd repair)

Left the phone for 3 days and I was informed everything was fine and they replaced something else.

Went home and the phone worked for a few hours and the next day, the same problem happened. They collected the phone (again) and after a whole week, they replaced the “flex illumination assembly” and claimed that they have “MONITORED EXTENSIVELY” and the phone is OK.  (4th repair)

They sent it back via courier and within 2 hrs of leaving the phone on stand-by, it AGAIN FAILS TO WORK WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.

They just REFUSE to replace the phone claiming that they have no policy against it even if IT’S UNDER WARRANTY.

Another repair was scheduled and they failed to send a courier this time despite making me wait at home for a whole day.

I personally brought it back to Wisma and left the phone last May 29. They said they’ll replace the motherboard (AGAIN!) and it should be OK. (5th repair)

3 weeks have past and I NEVER RECEIVED AN UPDATE from them despite them having 3 of my contact numbers and emails.

I called their customer service and was told that they’ll inform Wisma to give me a call, a week have past and NO PHONE CALLS WERE RETURNED!

June 30 (today), they claim to still not have any parts for the repair.

THE PHONE HAS BEEN WITH THEM FOR OVER 30DAYS. Overall, they had the phone longer than I had since purchase!

Their Email Support is absolutely USELESS, all they say is (verbatim)…

” Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Customer Support (Singapore).

With regards to your inquiry, we have received your email and your case has been escalated to Wisma service centre for their review
and actions.

They would be getting back to you in the soonest time possible regarding your request.

Hope to seek your kind understanding and patience.

If we can be of further assistance, please email to us at questions.sg@support.sonyericsson.com[5] or contact us at our Customer
Support hotline. For un-resolved issue, please do quote your cases ID for quick reference purposes.

Thank You and have a nice day.

Best regards,
Nic Chee”

That Nic Chee offers ZERO help.

The Wisma service staff named “Tan Kok Wah” offers no solution to the phone’s problem either.

It’s CLEARLY a lemon unit yet they refuse to acknowledge the fault.

Three emails to them, same reply on each one. Conveniently (for Sony Ericsson), you have NO WAY of contacting anyone above the branch manager of the service center or the person you talk to on the phone.

Five trips to the service center between October to May… F*ck them.

Oh just to add, my sister-in-law’s SE phone (brand new) fails to charge after just weeks of opening it from the box, while my officemate’s Sony MP3 player failed within 10mos as well. Good luck to them.

Finally received my prize for Reader’s Digest’s Unseen Asia photo contest, sponsored by Sanyo.

What a generous prize :)

Earth hour “voting” just ended. It’s supposed to be some form of “global election” for planet Earth and against global warming.

We turned off our lights and electronics around the house at around 830 and turned it back on after washing the dishes.

Working with candles at night isn’t anything new if you’ve lived in a country where power outages were normal (back in the Philippines, especially 10 years ago), so it was no big deal for us.

To be honest, it’s quite fun to have a candle-lit dinner with the family. Our dinner was slow and casual unlike our normal, rushed dinner sessions.

I try my best to be green, not exactly for the “Greenpeace” movement (I think they’re borderline fanatic loony sometimes), but more for the fact that resources are limited and it’s just downright selfish to be wasteful when half of the world doesn’t have access to water and electricity.

It’s been well-publicized how developing nations generate “so much” pollutants and the advanced countries are put on the pedestal for their “green laws”. I think it’s so hypocritical as developed nations went through the same pollutant-periods during their rise to power when there were no green-police around. Not to mention that the folks in developed nations use their large cars, large houses with high water and power requirements, etc. More Photos

The Star Ferry in Hong Kong has been the most affordable and reliable way to cross the Victoria Harbour between the lands of Kowloon and Hong Kong. This cultural icon of Hong Kong, from the pier to the ferry itself is in danger of being wiped off the cultural heritage of a fast-advancing, yet geographically scarce land availability.

Just a simple video to greet Daddy Logio on his 60th birthday :)
